We disseminate and promote in our Supply Chain the commitments inherent to responsible and sustainable supplies, in line with our Certification’s scopes.

  • WOOD PURCHASE

    BSL buys wood standing, in loaders or in port.

  • HARVESTING

    BSL, in cases where it proves to be advantageous, has its own equipment to carry out forestry operations, if necessary, which may include the felling of wood, with qualified teams for the purpose.

  • TRANSFORMATION - CHIPPING

    BSL, in cases where it proves to be opportune, has the means to crush and transform the forestry product into biomass, in the forest or in port.

  • TRANSPORTATION

    BSL ensures and controls the transport logistics operation from the woods to the port, whether it is logs or chips.

  • LOADING AND DELIVERY TO THE END CUSTOMER

    BSL organizes and controls the logistical operation for shipping the product, by sea or land, ensuring the best delivery conditions for the product to the end customer.

  • SERVICES PROVIDER

    BSL has equipment that allows it to carry out loading/unloading operations, as well as wood cut and chipping and other auxiliary services, either at the Clients’ facilities or at the Port facilities, with qualified teams for the purpose.

CERTIFICATION

BSL, in alignment of its Supply Policy and commitment to responsible and sustainable supplies, holds FSC® (FSC® C104872) and PEFC (PEFC/13-32-008) Certifications, issued by the Certifying Body APCER.

As a result of evaluation by the Preferred by Nature Certifying Body, OÜ obtained SBP/REDII Certification as a Trader of wood pellets and woodchips, and also as woodchips Biomass Producer including for use in energy production and transport to different final destinations worldwide.

Public Consultations

As part of the SBP certification audit process, BSL hereby invites stakholders to participate in the public consultation of its Supply Base Report (SBR) and encourages the submission of written comments on the SBR

The SBR presents an assessment of the supply base from which BSL sources woody biomass, and includes information on the geographic scope of the supply base, forest management practices, risk assessment, and mitigation measures applied in accordance with the SBP Framework, specifically SBP Standard 2 (Supply Base Evaluation and Monitoring).

Comments must be submitted by 16 July 2026 to: coc@bsl.pt

All comments received will be reviewed and taken into consideration. A summary of the consultation process and responses to material issues raised will be made available upon request.

BSL, an international trading company (www.bsl.pt) is a producer and trader of sustainable biomass, including for Energy, holding a Certificate, in this regard, according Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) – Standards v.2.0. Also has Multisite Certificates in accordance with the certification programs of the Forest Stewardship Council and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification.

The SBP has received a positive technical assessment from the European Commission on last 6th May 2025, confirming recognition for the purposes of the European Union Renewable Energy Directive EU/2023/2413 – also known as REDIII.

SBP also has published the documentation necessary for compliance with the requirements of EU RED Directive. In particular, but not limited to, the EU RED Instruction: Requirements for compliance with Directive EU/2023/2413, which came into force on 21st May 2025 and has immediate repercussions on the CoC Systems and criteria for declaration of eligible materials for the updated claim “SBP EU RED-Compliant”.

As part of the process of stakeholders public engagement and consultation, among whom we have identified you, we invite you to access the results of our SBR (Supply Base Report) and Supply Base Assessment, now updated in line with EU RED for the BSL operations in Portugal and Spain (Galicia, Asturias, Andalusia, Castile and León).

The consultation process will be open from 2 June to 1 July 2025.

ZAMBEZIA PROVINCE – ALTO MOLOCUÉ, ILE, NAMARRÓI AND MULEVALA DISTRICTS – MOZAMBIQUE

We invite you, as an interested party, to participate in the public consultation on the supply of controlled forest-based material, taking place within the scope of the FSC-STD 40-005 V3-1 standard, the FSC and the Chain of Custody.

The aim of this public consultation is to assess the risk of wood supply from Portucel’s plantations in Zambezia Province – Alto Molocué, Ile, Namarrói and Mulevala Districts – Mozambique, in the following categories of controversial origins, defined in Annex A of the FSC-STD 40-005 V3-1 standard Requirements for the Consumption of FSC Controlled Wood:

  • Category 1 – Illegally harvested wood
  • Category 2 – Wood harvested in violation of civil and traditional rights
  • Category 3 – Wood harvested in forests in which the High Conservation Values ​​are threatened by management activities
  • Category 4 – Wood harvested in forests in the process of conversion for plantations or for non-forestry uses;
  • Category 5 – Wood from forests where genetically modified trees are planted

SUPPLY OF CONTROLLED WOOD WITH PROVENANCE IN GONDOLA AND SUSSUNDENGA DISTRICTS, MANICA PROVINCE

We invite you to comment, in consultation, taking place within the scope of the BSL certification extension process, according to the FSC-STD 40-005 V3-1 standard, framed in the FSC® Chain of Custody standards. The aim of this public consultation is to assess the risk of sourcing wood from Gondola and Sussundenga Districts, Manica Province, in the following Categories of controversial origins, defined in Annex A of the FSC-STD 40-005 V3-1 Standard o Consumption of FSC Controlled Wood:

  • Category 1 – Illegally harvested wood
  • Category 2 – Wood harvested in violation of civil and traditional rights
