History and Activity

BSL was founded in 1994 as a family structure, having its headquarters in the city of Porto, in Portugal.

With an Iberian presence, it operates in international markets as a recognized Trader in the Wood and Steel Products segment, but also as an operator, since BSL has developed capacity and associated means both for forestry operations, wood crushing and other associated services . It also has a business area related to the import of steel products.

BSL currently has ongoing operations in Portugal, Mozambique and also Spain, in this case through its affiliate BSL Woodfiber.

Its permanent structure is currently made up of 15 key elements associated with the wood, biomass and steel products business, distributed across different areas of the company, directly and indirectly reaching more than 60 people

One of its competitive advantages comes from its logistical know-how, the result of BSL’s vast experience, namely in maritime transport.

As a result of other long-term partnerships, it adds other essential skills both in terms of logistics and operations, structuring and providing a range of complementary services and solutions tailored to its Customers.

BSL, in the forestal area, holds a Multi-Site Certificate, awarded in accordance with the FSC and PEFC Standards. For Biomass holds a certification according to the SBP Certification Scheme (Standards Versions v2.0), as Biomass Producer and a Trader, already including the SBP Requirements for compliance with the REDII Directive – DIRECTIVE (EU) 2018/2001, of December 11), for respond to the greater suitability of the biomass market for energy in this field.

Future plan

Pursuing our plan of action in the Iberian and international market, reinforcing and/or expanding our operations to new geographies, from our current base or by forwarding new and competitive sources of supply to current and future Customers, whether from segment of wood and Steel Products.
